Citroën C5 Tourer estate

reviewed by CarBuyer
- Big, square boat with wide hatch
- Soft inner surfaces
- Very comfortable indeed
- no petrol engines were available
- residual values not good as some rivals
- not to drive a lot of fun
"The Citroen C5 Tourer is undoubtedly one of the most comfortable family estate on the market -. But it is stylish and luxurious to"

The Citroen C5 Tourer has been sold since 08, and despite his age, still looks pretty fresh alongside newer competitors like the Mazda 6 Tourer, Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo Estate. It's a clunky-looking property with intelligent details that need to be more upscale look than the double chevrons in front on the grid.
There is a similar story inside with much soft-touch plastic on the dashboard and center console, but the design looks a bit picky when you compare it with the competition. There are a lot of buttons on the center console and steering wheel, which can be confusing, especially next to the likes of the Passat, which is a good example of a simple, intuitive interior design.

There are a lot of space inside the C5 Tourer, though. While the boat is not quite as big as the VW Passat Estate, it is a useful, square shape with a low loading sill, making it very easy to load heavy objects. Some models feature higher range Citroen Hydractive 3+ suspension setup, which automatically adjusts to the road and is self-leveling, too, so the car itself remains level when you load it with family and luggage.
there is not much choice when it comes to engines and trim levels. There is a 2.0-liter engine with 148bhp BlueHDi that is both available in the VTR + and Exclusive trim levels, while you get the Exclusive with a more powerful 178bhp 2.0-liter engine BlueHDi. This comes only with an automatic transmission, while the BlueHDi comes 150 engine with manual transmission.
The specification of the C5 is generous. The VTR + Techno-Pack comes completely equipped with air conditioning, alloy wheels, headlights, Bluetooth phone connectivity, automatic lights and wipers, rear parking sensors and electric windows. Exclusive Techno-Pack adds much luxury as a power liftgate, leather seats and navigation.
Both 2.0-liter diesel engines are smooth and refined, decent fuel economy to return. The C5 Tourer is not a sports car, however, and is better suited to relaxed cruising on the highway.

with only diesel engine line-up, almost all the versions of the Citroen C5 Tourer offer good fuel economy - disappoint only automatic models

the Citroen C5 Tourer is an excellent cruiser, eats the highway miles with ease, but it is not much fun in curves
-

-
Super comfortable and well equipped, but the Citroen C5 Tourer has an interior that falls behind the quality of the latest models
-
practicality & trunk
-
the Citroen C5 Tourer is quite handy, but the Volkswagen Passat Variant a bigger boat
-
reliability and safety
-
reliability is not yet on the German manufacturer standards, but the Citroen C5 Tourer is built better than the car it replaces
