It is not long ago that Kia was so something like a "budget" brand is considered; Focusing on value and low purchase price on everything. This is no longer the case, but

Admittedly, the Kia Cee'd still good value -. With a relatively low price and good standard, but in terms of style, substance and quality, it made a great leap forward.

, it is sitting in a very competitive class, and it needs to be truly excellent take on the likes of the Ford Focus, Opel Astra, VW Golf, Renault Megane and Peugeot 308. But fortunately the Cee is up there and worth considering when looking for a car of this type.

Unlike many of its rivals, the Kia Cee'd has a fairly simple trim level structure. There are only six available, with very few options on this. The entry-level 1 model is quite well equipped, with DAB radio, Bluetooth, USB port, air conditioning and even a chilled glove compartment. But our favorite is the mid-range 3, the satellite navigation system gets a touch screen, air conditioning dual zone, alloy wheels and cruise control as well.

Inside the Cee everything feels pretty high quality - though not quite at the level of the Volkswagen Golf - and it is well built, too. It lacks a little design flair, but with very dark plastic dominates everything the dashboard. Everything is very well laid out, though, and easy to use.

Regarding the engines to offer there are three petrol and two diesel, all for a six ~~ POS = TRUNC manual transmission standard. There is a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline to start the program from, plus a normally aspirated 1.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline - both of which manage 98bhp. The most powerful petrol engine in the "standard" range is a 133bhp 1.6-liter four-cylinder.

If you'd prefer a diesel, there is a 89bhp 1.4-liter and a 134bhp 1.6-liter. Our favorites are in the range of 1.0-liter petrol (if most of your driving to do in the city), while the 1.6-liter diesel offers the best combination of performance and efficiency, if you're going higher mileages to do.

There is also a high-performance GT version, which uses a 201bhp turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol engine. For the amount of money requested Kia, however, there are some powerful competitors available, while the fuel consumption of Cee GT is not fantastic, either. This means that it does not particularly good for either power or running costs, leaving it in a kind of no man's land.
