"The Nissan X-Trail looks and drives like a big Qashqai, and that's a compliment."

, the Nissan X-Trail is a SUV of medium size, with the Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento and Toyota RAV4 competes. It is also - depending on the priorities - makes a compelling alternative to the premium SUVs like the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Range Rover Evoque. These models are roughly the same size as the X-Trail and while they are driving all more fun, it cost £ 10,000 or so more than the Nissan. No one is with seven seats, either, which is an upgrade on X-Trail customers is £ 1,000.
picking a X-Trail engine is easy because there are only two possibilities. Gasoline is a 161bhp 1.6-liter, which gets the car from 0-62mph in 9.7 seconds, returns 45.6mpg and 145g / km of CO2 emitted, road tax make £ 145 per year. Company car drivers are a Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) rate of 26% liable if they select the fuel.

diesel is a 1.6 liter engine that produces 128bhp and go below 10.5 seconds from 0-62mph. As almost everywhere is the case, the diesel is more expensive to buy than petrol (about £ 1,800), but it is cheaper to run; it delivers 57.9mpg and CO2 emissions 129 g / km, road tax to make £ 110 a year and the BiK rate 25%. Note that the 19-inch alloy wheels mounted to the top two trim levels economic dent of about 2mpg with two motors, and press the diesel in the next road tax and BiK parentheses.
Neither the engine's performance and economic data outrageous, but they could hardly be outstanding, either called. Nevertheless, given the size of the X-Trail, price and overall skills, it is easy to overlook its somewhat disappointing engines.
The old X-Trail was a bit of an animal. It was tough as old boots and extremely practical, but it never quite shook off a weak hint of the Court - great if you wanted a car, the utility over comfort priority, not so good for families. The latest X-Trail was established in 2014 and marked a significant departure from the previous model launched. Nissan designer was inspired by the Qashqai - might be confused to the extent that if you have nothing to scale you can easily explore the X-Trail with its smaller sister model

The X-Trail is a six-speed manual transmission as standard with a CVT automatic an option 450 £. We would avoid this if you can, although, since it is not very big pleasant to use. All-wheel drive is a £ 1,450 option with the diesel engine and manual transmission, and although most X-Trail drivers are unlikely often to venture off-road, to welcome those in areas prone can bad weather the extra grip.
wheel drive dents around four mpg economy and vehicle tax presses on the next tape, but it provides three useful modes: keeping the car in two-wheel-drive device, it switches to four drive wheel if it detects a loss of grip, while the third mode to the X-Trail fully with all-wheel drive.

Inside the X-Trail majors space. Front and second-row passengers get a huge amount of head and legroom, and while the two third-row seats are best reserved for small children, they are an option, many welcome. The boot is large, at 550 liters, although this is not reduced from 100 liters or so, if you specify the additional two seats, as if they are folded they make the boot floor slightly higher. The front seats, now may be a little uncomfortable on long journeys and some of the interior plastics could be a little softer to the touch. These two caveats aside, the X-Trail features inside.
Nissan offers the X-Trail in four trim levels. Entry-level Visia cars are reasonable (if not very large) equipped with LED running lights, cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, a five-inch infotainment touchscreen, all-round electric windows and Bluetooth connectivity. An upgrade to Acenta trim costs punchy £ 2,000 or so and add additional speakers for the stereo, Tinted rear windows, automatic lights and wipers, a panoramic sunroof, all-round parking sensors and a leather steering wheel.
The next trim n-tec, the keyless entry supplemented and go, additional safety equipment (such as automatic emergency braking), a 360-degree rear view camera, an improved seven-inch infotainment system, complete with Navi and DAB radio, 19-inch alloy wheels and a powered boat -. all for a not inconsiderable £ 2,500
Tekna completes the range and costs another £ 2,000. But you get, well, really everything: heated and electrically adjustable leather seats, a clever self parking process (you can or do not use), full LED headlights and more safety equipment, including a blind-spot monitoring system
If you are willing to take the financial hit Acenta trim requires, we recommend you do. Visia cars may be a little more difficult to sell them on the secondhand market, while the panoramic sunroof presented on Acenta and flooded over the interior with light, with no leeway denting too much.
It's a shame, Nissan has some of X reserved -Trail advanced security systems for higher trim levels or the option list, but Euro NCAP awarded the full five stars in its crash-worthiness assessment yet. Reliability is more of an unknown: the X-Trail does not feature in our 2016 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey, while Nissan 28 of 32 came carmakers, with build quality a particular area of disappointment.
