"The Volvo XC70 is a practical, luxurious and robust combi. It is expensive, however, and will soon be replaced soon."

    Volvo XC70 estate

the Volvo XC70 is a toughened-up version of the V70 Wagon Volvo with a raised ride height, chunky bumpers and optional four-wheel drive. If you have to deal with quite rough terrain from time to time, it is quite competent in this area - like the Audi A6 Allroad and Volkswagen Passat Alltrack. Note, however, that the V70 on the now the XC70 is based on the Volvo V0 and a similarly harsh version of this car has been replaced - likely to be called the V0 Cross Country - is thought to be in the pipeline. While XC70 production has now ceased, nearly new examples should be priced to reflect their initial state

If you want XC70 a new (ish), you will be happy with a diesel engine -. The 300bhp T6 petrol was set halfway through the life of the model, in part because they fought over 25mpg return. Fortunately, the diesels strong performers. The entry-level engine is the D4 and produces 179bhp called. Depending on whether you enter the front or all-wheel drive, this engine is either 2.0 or 2.4 liters respectively - although its power is equal, regardless of its size remains. The top-spec 2.4-liter D5 engine produces 212bhp and is only with all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission available. Performance across the range is broadly similar to last with 0-62mph 8.2 to 9.5 seconds.

Given the size of the XC70 and the performance that it offers, the running costs are reasonable. The efficient combination is the front-wheel drive D4 version with manual transmission; in this configuration, there is 64.2mpg and costs just £ 30 per year in road tax. Opting for all-wheel drive, the more powerful D5 engine or an automatic transmission is to see the road tax increase to a minimum of £ 110 and a maximum of £ 180 per year. Economy for the rest of the XC70 range is between 48.7 and 58.9mpg.

On the road, increased suspension height means a fair bit of body lean in corners there, but the XC70 glides impressively over bumps and is a very competent highway cruiser. In terms of off-road ability, it sits somewhere between a normal car and a full-on SUV: they are to take it unlikely that a mountain, but its elevated ride height means it acquits itself well on most rough surfaces, especially if you choose the all-wheel drive option

step inside the XC70, and you are in for a treat -. if a little dated one. There is a comfortable air and solidity, while the instrument panel to the new V0 is a little outdated compared feels, there is no feeling of luxury to deny and to build quality on the display. Front and rear passengers get excellent head and legroom, while the XC70 575-liter boot is a flat bottom and is actually slightly larger than the new V0.

Towards the end of his life the XC70 offered in only two trims, SE Nav and SE Lux. Equipment highlights in SE Nav was cars include leather seats, navigation system, cruise control, 17-inch alloy wheels, a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. SE Lux trim adds (1,0 £) xenon headlamps, a power-adjustable driver's seat, 18-inch alloy wheels and a digital display that replaces the traditional tachometer and other dashboard dials.

Security is excellent to obtain thanks to the V70 sister car the full five stars in Euro NCAP's assessment of the XC70. Reliability is likely to be more average: Volvo came 13th out of 32 manufacturers in our 2016 Driver Power customer satisfaction study - with a 22nd place finish for reliability.

the XC70 is a toughened-up, quasi-off-road version of the V70 estate whose beefed-up bumpers, increased ride height and accentuated foglights give it a unique appearance. Dark gray trim at the edges and silver underbody protectors at both ends supplement the action.
    10 / 20
Volvo is famous for its comfort, and that is very nice confirmed by the XC70, to the detriment of just about everything else. You can relax in the wide, enhanced diving seat, but to find a decent driving position is really difficult weird.
    3 / 5
built Designed by Volvo in Sweden and in Bridgend in Wales, the 3.2-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder six ~ ~ POS = TRUNC petrol engine is both powerful and compact, producing 238 hp and a maximum torque of 320 Nm. The aluminum block and head of the engine are optimized to balance structural light weight and rigidity.
    4 / 5
If you go to the added security and traction of all-wheel drive, but do not want a large off-roader, then the XC70 ideal compromise. It is the V70 estate important, but added with extra ground clearance, body protection as larger bumpers and (in most models) all-wheel drive system. This makes it ideal if you live in a rural area or to regularly pull a trailer or caravan.
